Establishing Treefish and Launching Churchee
Back in 2020, Heather did “Social Media Monday” each week. Organising posts, events and keeping our churches' social media up to date. Our website, however, was becoming more and more out of date with every passing week… The CMS we were using was not particularly intuitive, and entering all the same information again was incredibly frustrating and tedious. As a web developer, Jon pondered the question “what if?” and decided to create a website system that pulled the great stuff Heather was creating for social media and posting to Spotify into the church website automatically, and so Churchee was born!
In 2024, beta testing of Churchee began, and the feedback received was very positive. Churchee was what had been hoped for: a system that makes life easier for churches to have a great website with minimal effort.
In April 2025, Treefish Ltd was registered to offer a paid hosted and supported version of the Churchee platform. It is early days for Treefish Ltd, but we hope Churchee will benefit many churches across the UK in the years to come.
What does Treefish mean?
You may be wondering where "Treefish" came from. Well there is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the belonging to the subfamily Sebastinae that are called Treefish...
...just kidding, that's not where our name comes from! The real reason is there are two symbols which are commonly used in Christianity:
- The "Ichthys"; a fish symbol often seen on the bumpers of cars of Christians.
- The cross: often referred to in the new testament as a "tree" (out of what Jesus accomplished on the cross we can have new life)
So we smushed those ideas together!
Tree (the cross) + fish (Ichthys) = treefish!
We wanted it to be obvious that we are Christians. However, lots of people ask, so maybe not as obvious as we hoped!
